Dogs in the New Land

Fall, 2010
Dog-lovers will love this article. I found a number of extraordinary instances where man's best friend played pivotal roles in American history. I truly believe what I wrote: "Surely, European immigrants could have settled America without dogs, but it's difficult to imagine how." A Simple Life publisher Jill Peterson arranged for the exceptional animal artist Joseph Sulkowski to provide several of his beautiful paintings to illustrate the article.

  1. I loved this article, and seems to me it was written with passion and admiration for the subject matter.
Having lived in East Africa for many years, with dogs, I, and many other farming folk, can spend hours discussing our dogs and stories concerning them. We still have dogs, although not for a reason of safety but simply because they are important.
The artwork accompanying this article is beautiful, the artist could not paint such pictures without loving dog-people!
